Making Sandwiches…

As we are growing cress we decided to make sandwiches using cress. We practised holding a knife to spread butter on our bread then chose to add ham or egg with our cress. We also talked about how our sandwiches were healthy for us. What healthy sandwiches can you suggest we make using the cress we grow?

Dogger…

This week we are learning about the story of ‘Dogger’ by Shirley Hughes. We have read the story and are now learning to retell the story using time connectives.

Celebrating Shrove Tuesday .

Today we have been learning about Shrove Tuesday and the meaning of this festival. We talked about what we eat on this day how we celebrate Shrove Tuesday with our families. We found out that we celebrate Shrove Tuesday in different ways but we all enjoy it!

What toppings do you like on your pancakes?

Throwing and catching .

Today, during PE we have have been practicing catching and throwing using a bean bag. We learned to use big eyes, big hands and to pull the beanbag to our tummy as we catch it. First we worked alone and then we practised a game where we threw the beanbag to a friend to catch.

How high can you throw a beanbag and then catch it?

Sponsored Skip.

Over the past half term we have been learning to skip so we can take part in a sponsored skip to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. We all enjoy helping others less fortunate than ourselves and this will be the third charity we have supported this academic year. Today we skipped for 10 minutes. It was very hard but we were determined to complete this challenge.

Learning To Segment And Blend To Read.

We really enjoy reading and stories in class 1. As we are learning our phonemes we are growing more confident reading short sentences. Today, we worked in pairs outdoors. We ran to find a question written on paper then, after reading it, sorted the questions into sets of questions where the answer is ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

How do you read unfamiliar words?

Ow!

We really enjoy phonics and today played a game where we used phonemes to make a word. Each word had the phoneme ‘ow’. Some words were real words whilst other words were silly. We had to make sure the phonemes were in the correct order so we needed to listen carefully to the word as we said it.
